Q. Is there a definition for PMS?
A. Even though approximately 75% of American
women of reproductive age experience Premenstrual Syndrome
(PMS), there is no precise medical explanation. PMS is defined
as women experience it - a cluster of physical
and emotional symptoms that appear on a regular basis sometime
after ovulation and continue until menstrual bleeding begins.
At least 150 different symptoms have been associated with
PMS. Generally speaking, symptoms are either psychological
(irritability, mood swings, forgetfulness, anxiety) or physiological.
(cramping, bloating, breast tenderness, headaches) Many women
experience both.
Q. What causes PMS?
A. Although the exact causes of PMS are
unknown, studies suggest many different theories. Causes of
PMS symptoms have been linked to abnormal hormone levels such
as excessive estrogen or deficient progesterone, inappropriate
bodily response to hormones, nutritional deficiencies, and
various psychological factors, the most important being stress.
(See the inside of this brochure for more information.)
Q. How do I know my symptoms are PMS
and not something else?
A. It is the timing, rather than the exact
nature of the symptom, that is the determining factor for
PMS. If you have PMS, symptoms disappear or significantly
lessen with the onset of menstruation. If symptoms are continuous,
it is probably not PMS. Check with your health care professional
to be sure.
Q. What are OönaPMS1 and OönaPMS2?
A. Since women can experience either psychological
or physiological symptoms, or both types, Oöna Health
has developed two different formulations that may be taken
separately or together. OönaPMS1 formulation, taken throughout
a woman's cycle, works with her body to help balance production
of certain hormones; the correct balance can mitigate the
onset of PMS.* OönaPMS2, taken just before a menstrual
period begins, is formulated to help alleviate monthly cramps,
aches, heavy bleeding, and accompanying headaches during menstruation.*
(See the inside of this brochure for more information.)
Q. Can Oona PMS1 and PMS2 be taken together?
A. Yes, Oona PMS1 and Oona PMS2 may be taken
simultaneously. Keep in
mind that Oona PMS1 is taken thorough out the month while
Oona PMS2 is
taken only a few days before menstruation until the time cramps
and related symptoms subside.
Q. What are the benefits and ingredients
of OöonaPMS1?
A. OönaPMS1 is formulated to relieve
symptoms such as:
Irritability Anxiety Mood swings Mild
depressions Forgetfulness Breast Tenderness
Bloating
Active ingredients: Main tablet: Chaste
tree berry extract 275 mg. (1.13 mg agnusides) Black Cohosh
40 mg. (1 mg. triterpene glycosides)
Additional passionflower tablet: Passionflower extract 100
mg. (4 mg. flavanoids)
Q. Why the additional tablet of Passionflower?
A. Although the herbs in OönaPMS1 are
safe and effective, not every woman requires the same amount
of benefit .* Passionflower extract is an herb generally used
to calm mild anxiety.* Clinical research has shown that it
also has properties that act as an antispasmodic and thus
soothe menstrual discomfort.* We've separated out the passion
flower to give you the choice of whether or not you would
like some added assistance in the second half of the cycle
when PMS related anxiety and irritability increase.
Q. What are the benefits and ingredients
of OönaPMS2?
A. OönaPMS2 is formulated to relieve
symptoms such as:
- Uterine cramps
- Heavy bleeding
- Body aches
- PMS-related indigestion and gas
- PMS-related muscle aches
- PMS-related lower back pain
- Nausea
Active ingredients: Cramp bark proprietary
extract 5 mg. (400 mcg. verbenalin alklaloid), ginger extract
75 mg, 3.75 gingerols
Q. How are the active ingredients standardized?
A. Oöna Health uses marker compound
standardized extracts. This means that the entire herb is
present in the extract, the active ingredient is not isolated
and added, like caffeine in a soft drink as an example. This
is important because there are many constituents of an herb
that work together in a myriad of ways that we don't quite
understand. In our extracts, one compound serves as a marker
to indicate the presence of an active ingredient in the herb
as well as the presence of other constituents that provide
its therapeutic properties. As an example, black cohosh is
standardized to include 2.5% triterpene glycosides, which
are considered an active group of compounds. The marker compound
for these glycosides is called 27 deoxyacteine.
Q. Who is Oöna Health, Inc.?
A. Formally known as Becoming, Inc., the
company became known for its fashions and accessories tailored
to the needs of women undergoing cancer treatment. The name
Becoming was sold in 2003. The founder, Valerie Otto, whose
mother lost the struggle against cancer, worked with doctors,
researchers, and manufacturers to help bring women reliable
herbal solutions as alternatives to more traditional drug
treatments. The first product, Oöna for menopause, has
brought thousands of women relief from symptoms experienced
during this transitional time of life. With OönaPMS1
and PMS2, Oona Health aims to do the same for the approximately
75% of American? women who experience premenstrual syndrome
in one form or another.*
Q. What does Oöna mean?
A. Oöna translates as "unity,"
or "the one" in Celtic. We continually develop Oöna
as "the one" herbal supplement line focused on keeping
women in unison with their health and bodies.
Q. How do I know this is a product I
can trust?
A. At Oöna Health, we've made every
effort and taken every precaution to ensure that this product
is not only safe and effective but has reliable efficacy from
box to box. Oöna Health not only sources the finest standardized
extracts available, but also independently tests each batch
